The medical system known today as TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) developed in China during the first half of the past century as a combination of the various old medical systems with the newly established modern medicine.

The earliest basic works for TCM were written in China over 2000 years ago and are still valid today. One of the most important books is the "Huángdì Nèijīng" (Chinese 黄帝内經). This classic was written around 200 BC. Written as a conversation between the emperor Huang Di and his minister Qi Bo, it describes the theoretical basics of Chinese medicine and acupuncture for the first time. The Huángdì Nèijīng still forms the basis of TCM today.

During the centuries that followed, the concepts of Yin and Yang, the 12 channels, the five phases of change and the functions of the organs were progressively refined, but their principles remained unchanged. New approaches in TCM are still based on the original methods described in the historical books.

A treatment is based on a thorough anamnesis (findings by questioning) and diagnosis, in which the pulse and the tongue image of the patient, as well as his dietary habits, digestion, sleep patterns, etc. are taken into consideration.

In the course of the therapy, which usually extends over several sessions, various methods such as acupuncture, Tuina, cupping, moxa, GuaSha and dietary recommendations are used. Depending on the diagnosis, the aim of treatment can be to harmonize the Qi flow, balance Yin and Yang, tonify, etc.
